January 23rd, on Twitter, the title of the new Star Wars movie has finally been revealed, and if you have somehow missed it, the title is Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

As one would expect, the confirmed title has added to the hype surrounding the eighth film in the main Star Wars series of films, and sequel to 2015’s mega blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, as one would also expect, the confirmed title has caused an array of concern – “The LAST JEDI” does possess negative connotations – said concern being the death of Luke Skywalker.

During the opening crawl of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Luke Skywalker is referred to as “the last Jedi”, therefore, it is more than likely that the title of the new Star Wars is just a reference to the character of Luke Skywalker. The opening crawl can be found here:

When taking the ending of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the entailment of the new Star Wars movie into consideration, it is overwhelmingly likely that Luke Skywalker is to have an important emphasis within the film, and the confirmed title is most likely a reference to him.

Ultimately, as I don’t work for Disney or Lucasfilm, I can’t confirm the fate or actual involvement of the Luke Skywalker character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but I live in hope that the new movie is much better than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and is more than just a remake of a Star Wars movie from the original trilogy.
